What is the Marketing Budget for your Network Marketing Business

What is the Marketing Budget for your Network Marketing Business?

Business Plan for your Network Marketing Business

There are 3 things every successful business must have:

  • A vision
  • A business plan
  • A marketing budget

Typically in a small business, marketing accounts for 15% or more of projected gross sales revenues. Not profits, sales revenue.

So what is your projected sales volume?

Ahhh, the catch-22 for most in our profession. In network marketing its almost unheard of to find someone who has an actual written business plan with all the items that are found in business plans for other businesses – Your product or service, the overall market for your product or services, your target market, the competition, your projected sales, Your projected revenue and earnings, your sales and marketing methodology, a budget for your marketing.

Do you have a business plan? If not, why not? Is it that you have not taken your network marketing business seriously? That you are not treating it like a business, you are treating it like a hobby?

Well, it’s time you started treating it like a business, so it can pay you like a business.

Let’s Take a Look at an Outline of My Business Plan for the Next 3 Months:

Industry(s) – Health and Wellness

Products –     Customized Nutritional Supplements/Sports Nutrition – $37 billion in the US

Products –     Weight Loss/Weight Management – $65 billion in the US

Products –     Energy Drinks – $60 billion in the US

Products –     Anti-Aging Skin Care/Personal Care – $11 billion in the US

Target Market – Baby Boomers; Professionals – Insurance, Real Estate, Executives and Management, and small business owners; Working Moms

Competition – Grocery Store vitamins; Monster, 5 Hour Energy and Red Bull; Herbalife, Nutrisystems, and 1 million diets on the bookshelf; I’m not sure but I will find out if I start focusing on skin care, I know we are much better and less expensive than most I see advertised.

Projected sales – Q1 2016 – 120,000  SVP (In USANA, we see sales in terms of sales volume points that are then converted to dollars depending on the market you are in)

Projected sales revenue – $12,000.00

Sales/Marketing Methodology – Go Pro Recruiting Mastery Techniques, Facebook, Twitter, Blogging, Video Blogging/Periscope

Marketing Budget – $1800.00

What Do I spend My Marketing Budget On

There are many things you can be spending your marketing budget on. Samples are the number one expenditure in Network Marketing. If you are not putting your products in the hands of potential customers regularly you are not selling much. Event costs are another area to budget for. Not just the rental of a room, but AV needs, samples, decorations, and prizes. Business cards are another marketing cost. How about flyers to advertise your events?

So now that you know what one looks like, its time to take your Network Marketing business seriously and treat it as a business by writing out a business plan and a marketing plan today.

So What Do You Do

So What Do You Do?

ACE - What do you do #entrepreneur #marketing #timefreedom #financialsecurity I get asked all the time what is it I do that allows me to be home walking my dog Ace during the day while most people are stuck at the office.

I think this quote from one of my mentors Soomin Kim says it better than I can…

“If you could create ADDITIONAL stream of income without having to obtain a second job, would you be interested? If you could find a way to save possibly THOUSANDS on your taxes would that interest you? How about being able to spend MORE time with your family or spend more time pursuing your passion without the concern of losing income, would that excite you? If you could learn the skills of CEO’s, Entrepreneurs, and subsequently earn THEIR type of income, would that be worth inquiring? For MOST it isn’t a lack of DESIRE, we ALL would like those, but more often than not it’s the lack of a PLAN. I’ll NOT only SHOW you a plan but I will work WITH you and give you EVERY OPPORTUNITY to obtain the skills necessary in achieving your personal and financial goals with the limited time and experience that you may have.”

What I Do

That is what I do. I work with others to help them achieve their goals. Goals of better health. Goals of more income. Goals of more time freedom. Goals of financial security.

The better I get at helping others achieve their goals, the more time I have to walk my dog during the day while you are at the office.

Would you like to learn if what I do is a fit for you? Take the first step and contact me today.

Would You Join an MLM that Does Something You Hate

Would You Join an MLM that Does Something You Hate

What is your reaction to robo dialing telemarketing calls

Patty and I include our contact information on this website and we have received calls and emails from many nice, intelligent people that are either interested in the USANA products and opportunity after reading our blog posts or they are well meaning people that call us offering a chance to try the products or opportunity they represent.

While we are feel that USANA offers not only the best products in its industry and also the best opportunity for long term residual income, we welcome calls and emails of both types. We want to connect with people that are excited about and dedicated to the network marketing profession.

What Everyone Hates

What we have a hard time with is all the people that think its ok to send us spam or worse yet, to use a robo dialer to call us. Seriously, would you join a company or even more importantly an individual who is doing something that is as universally hated as recorded telemarketing calls or robo dialing? Is that a way to build your business that:

  • Encourages people to follow your example?
  • Builds a team of people dedicated to you and your company’s vision?

Personally, I would never join a team that is doing something I dislike as much as I dislike recorded telemarketing calls and email spam.

Network Marketing is a Profession Built on Relationships

In network marketing the reason people buy your products or join your business is because of the relationship you build with them. They buy your vision for the future in the profession or the efficacy of your products because they trust you and because they trust you, they trust the information you are sharing with them.

Do You Trust People or Marketing Processes You Dont Like?

Build Trust, Find a Need, THEN Offer a Solution

The process to follow to long term success in the network marketing profession is by building a relationship that has trust, finding out if there is a need for your product or opportunity and then offering a solution that fills their need.

When people know you care about them and trust that you are offering something you believe in and also believe will solve a problem they are experiencing, they are much more likely to use the product and join your business. And that is what you want isn’t it?

There are many great training programs to help you learn the best practices that have built long lasting, huge earning network marketing careers. Most companies have a great training system and if your companies training doesn’t resonate with you, we would highly recommend Eric Worre’s Go Pro Recruiting Mastery. You can find out more information about it at

Lets all become professional network marketers and build our businesses using methods that reflect well on the profession as a whole.

I do hope you decide to join us on our adventure. Once that momentum kicks in, there is no telling what peaks we can climb together.

Your Brain on Hope

Your Brain on Hope

Always Chase Your Dreams - USANA

I returned from the 2014 USANA International Convention in Salt Lake City to find this powerful article in our email today.  It was so insightful and inspiring that I had to share it.

I googled Dana Wilde and added a link below in hopes that I can attribute it to the correct person. I hope you are touched by the message and encouraged enough to take action. Cheers!

Your Brain on Hope by Dana Wilde

Have you ever met that network marketer who is brand new to their business and just bursting with enthusiasm? The one who is SO filled with excitement that everything he or she touches seems to turn to gold? Do you ever remember feeling like that yourself?

I remember hearing the president of my direct sales company call it, “ignorance on fire.” We don’t know what we’re doing, but we’re doing it with such gusto that we meet with success after success.

The reason for this phenomenon actually has its roots in brain science. When your brain is in a positive emotional state, it’s more resourceful. You literally get better ideas.

In addition, when you are in a positive emotional state, the reticular activating system in your brain is filtering through all of the available information in the world around you and matching you up with the right people at the right time. You’re having better results because you are “tuned in” to all the best opportunities around you.

Most of us want to feel like that enthusiastic newbie. Sometimes we look at our businesses and wonder, “Where has my mojo gone and how can I get it back?” We end up feeling frustrated with our business because it’s growing too slow or maybe we feel stuck or like we’re spinning our wheels.

Well, if you’ve ever felt like this, then I have good news for you. You don’t have to be bouncing off of the walls with excitement to start to gain some traction in your business. All you really need is a little “hope.”

When you are in a frustrated, stressed, or overwhelmed state of mind, you are literally stifling the creative pathways in your brain. In order to open up your brain and get your mojo flowing again, you MUST shift yourself to a positive state of mind and the entryway to that shift is the feeling of HOPE.

Hope is enough.

When you put yourself into a feeling of “hope” – and remain there as consistently as possible – you can accomplish great things quickly and easily, even if you never make it to feelings of enthusiasm, passion, or joy.

Many entrepreneurs have mood swings between the emotions of frustration and hope. Typically, they have small successes quickly followed by small setbacks. The typical entrepreneur will focus on the small success and feel good and then they will focus on the small setback and feel bad. Ping-ponging back and forth between these two emotions, they never really gain any traction, which is why many businesses grow incrementally instead of by leaps and bounds.

This is why getting to a feeling of hope is so important. If you can get yourself to a feeling of hope-and stay there consistently-you create a resourceful brain that finds solutions for you.

You start to have small successes, and if you focus on those successes and ignore the setbacks, it becomes easier to stay in a feeling of hope. If you stay with hope long enough, then the successes pile up and it becomes easier to have feelings of belief, positive expectation, knowing, joy, and appreciation.

And it all starts with hope.

So if you’re feeling frustrated with your business, how can you start feeling more hopeful right now? You can start with what I call, The Hope Exercise.

The Hope Exercise is really simple. It’s designed to help you focus on statements that generate the feeling of hope. In other words, if you “think” hopeful thoughts long enough, you will automatically start to “feel” hopeful.

Here’s how it works:

Whenever you feel frustrated or overwhelmed, just pause, take a deep breath and start saying phrases or statements beginning with the words … “I hope.”

Your statements might sound something like this:

“I hope I start to feel better.”
“I hope I find a way to get my business moving.”
“I hope I find a method that makes my business easier.”
“I hope I get some people to buy my product.”
“I hope someone walks up to me out of the blue and buys something.”
“I hope I make a lot of money in this business.”
“I hope I attain my goals.”
“I hope I start to feel more positive.”
“I hope I my business grows this year.”
“I hope things improve.”
“I hope I can think of another hope sentence.”

When you’ve said your hope statements a few times, pay close attention to how you “feel.” If you find your emotions dipping back into frustration again, keep applying your hope statements. This will ward off counter-productive thinking right away. It will get you quickly back into that hopeful feeling again!

Keep saying your new “hope phrases” until you experience emotional movement towards genuine feelings of hope.

Another important note: When you first start using hope statements you’ll find, though you’re making hopeful or optimistic statements, they might sound and feel more like frustration than hope to you. However, if you say your statements for several minutes, you’ll begin to feel your emotions soften, your mood lighten, and you’ll quickly start feeling better.

Better thoughts translate into better feelings and better feelings translate into a more resourceful brain and a more successful business.

While many of us would like to feel like that enthusiastic newbie all day, every day, you’ll soon realize that your “brain on hope” is a powerful force for positive change in your business and in your life.

Hope is enough

Trapped in Network Marketing

Trapped in Network Marketing

Here is another of the emails we have received recently that has a message so powerful I have to share it with you.

The author is an unknown MJ. If anyone knows who wrote it originally I would love to pass that information and a link to MJ’s website along to you as well. Its made a huge difference in my attitude and the actions I have taken today. I hope it does the same for you:

So I’ve been trapped in an airport

…and while I’m waiting for the weather to clear up, I wanted to write you a quick note to pump you up about your Network Marketing business.

You see, I’m a huge fan of Network Marketing. I’ve taught (literally) hundreds of thousands of people how to become more successful in Network Marketing by improving their prospecting, their presentations and their closing.

And I LOVE teaching all of you!

And I LOVE that you love me teaching you. Heck, my first book has sold over 200,000 copies to date so I know there are a TON of satisfied students who are working hard to change their lives with my materials.

So I want to share a story that will pump you up and get you reinvigorated to go out and change your life today:

A good friend of mine who is a very successful leader in a well-known Network-Marketing company was not always so successful.

He lived in a small town outside of Cleveland and was on the verge of losing his car, his house… Bankruptcy seemed inevitable.

Lucky for him, his upline explained the price of the promise to him.

The promise was: “this business can set you free financially in one to three years.”

The price is: “to succeed, you have to face and conquer four major enemies.”

My friend (we’ll call him Jim) agreed and invited 200 friends over to his house (which was almost in foreclosure) to watch a video…

80 said NO. And that was…

He thought “well, my upline warned me about that but I still have 120 people who are coming over.”

Guess what? Only 70 showed up. Jim had just encountered…

Jim thought “no problem, my upline warned me about that… at least those 70 watched the video and will want to join my business!”

Guess what? 57 said “not interested.” Which was…

Jim thought “well, 13 people DID sign up, that’s AWESOME!

Guess what? 12 of those ‘awesome’ people dropped out of the business shortly thereafter and that was Jim’s experience with…

Because of attrition, Jim had just ONE serious person who was going to build a business in his downline.

Guess what?

To this day, that single distributor earns Mark over $50,000 per month.

Here’s my question to you:

If you knew that just ONE person was going to make you $50,000 per month, how many phone calls would you make to find them?

How many presentations would you show prospects?

How much time and energy is $50,000 per month from ONE PERSON worth to you?

This story is NOT at all unique in the business of Network Marketing

I know it because I’ve heard the stories from my students and seen this exact scenario play out all over the globe, every single day.

But here’s the catch:

You have your own set of odds… and you won’t know what they are until AFTER YOU’VE SUCCEEDED!

You Can either give up and assume the business doesn’t work…

OR, recognize that you are working through your own numbers

Are you willing to find out what your own set of odds are?

To your success

I do hope you enjoyed this story as much as I did. Now go out and take action to find the one person that is waiting for you to introduce them to network marketing and help them reach their dreams.

I do hope you decide to join us on our adventure. There is no telling what peaks we can climb together.

Network Marketing Training – The Win-Win Proposition

Network Marketing Training

– The Win-Win Proposition

Network Marketing Training - Win Win Proposition

Network marketing is the only business I know of where training your business associates provides a complete win-win 100 percent of the time. One of the foundational truths of network marketing is that the better those you sponsor & mentor in the business DO in the business, the more money you both make.

How does that compare to other jobs, professions and businesses?

Training other employees in a J.O.B.

Think about what you do, or used to do before network marketing, to earn your living. A new employee comes on board and you are asked to train them.  If you train them to do the job as well or better than you can, many times they will be promoted over you.

A friend recently called to complain about his current situation. To protect the innocent, he still works there, I will call him David.

For nearly a decade David has been the top sales rep at his solar company. In early 2012 his company asked him to allow new reps to ride along so they could learn what he did to be so successful at selling solar for residential customers. He was happy to do so because #1 he believed in his company and its products and #2 he had been told that the long-time VP of Sales was retiring at the end of 2012 and he was in line for the position.

I think you can see where this is going. David trained 6 reps in 2012 and several were given territories that were cut out of his territory.  Because of David’s shrinking territory and because of his dedication to training, one of the new reps matched David’s sales totals in the final quarter of 2012. Guess who was promoted to fill the sales management position?

You got it, the new sales rep David trained. It’s not always a win-win to train and mentor other employees when you are an employee, too.

Training Employees as a Small Business Owner

If you are a business owner, think about what happens with your very best employees. You train them to do the jobs in your organization with the idea that the best and brightest will replace you in the everyday tasks so you can work on your business instead of in it.

What happens with those best and brightest? Many, many times they leave to start their own and competing business. The better you are at training them, the more you create your own competition.

It’s a short-term loss. It costs money and time to train your employees. Time you could have spent selling or doing other revenue generating activities.

A mid-term win. While they are still with you, they free your time up and make you money.

It is a long-term lose for you, because you now have to train someone else to fill their position or do it yourself AND they are directly taking business away from you.

Network Marketing Training & Mentoring

In Network Marketing when you train someone to surpass your own production you win because the volume they create is part of the volume in your organization, so you make more money. They win because they are able to succeed to a level they probably couldn’t have without your training and mentorship.

So its a true win-win when you provide effective network marketing training.

The Real Value of Building a Network Marketing Business

The Real Value of Building an MLM Business

One of the biggest lessons you learn in Business school is the difference between Assets and Liabilities.

  • Assets add money to your cashflow. Assets put money in your pocket whether you work or not.
  • Liabilities cost money. To acquire, to pay, to lease or rent, to maintain, to insure.

In Network marketing you are building a long term, residual income. The residual nature of that income makes your MLM business an asset and a big one. How big? To get a better idea of how big of an asset your MLM business is, let’s look at other assets.

What Are Other Assets Paying?

There are a number of investments that are typically thought of as assets.

  • A CD in the bank
  • Savings Accounts
  • Stocks, bonds and mutual funds
  • Commodities like Oil & Gas, Gold, and other precious metals

If they appreciate they will pay interest or a dividend that adds to your cashflow.

How much interest or appreciation are we seeing in those investments? A CD in the bank is paying about 1% today. A savings account may pay as much as 0.25% interest. The stock market has just recently caught up to where it was in 2007-2008.  Treasury Bonds are paying between 0.76% for a 5 year note to 3.03% for a 30 year note. Oil & Gas, Gold and other precious metals have peaked and are on their way down. Gold has lost more than $100 from its peak in just the last 3 months. Silver hit its peak in 2008 and has been on a consistent slide for 4 years. Oil and Gas are down more than $50 from their 2008 peak and have lost more than 10% in the past 12 months.

So some investments are not assets at all as they are depreciating, losing money over time.

How About Real Estate?

We all saw what happened over the last 5-6 years in the housing market. In some areas of the US, real estate is worth half of what it was at its peak. And real estate will cost you money for your mortgage, upkeep, insurance, etc…

If your real estate is mortgage free and you are collecting rents then it can be considered an asset. Typically real estate is a liability.

How Big of An Asset is Your MLM Business?

My goal has been to retire at 65 with an income of $60,000 per year. So what would it take today to do that using the other assets we named?

  • A CD? – $5 million in the bank
  • A Savings Account? – $20 million in the bank
  • Stocks, Bonds and Mutual Funds?  – The average ROI of those investments to 2.0%, so it would take $2.5 million invested
  • Oil & Gas, Gold and other commodities? – Unknown because they are depreciating currently.
  • More importantly you have to already HAVE that money to invest it.

In network marketing, having a residual income of $5,000 per month is about the same as having $5 million in CDs, $20 million in a Savings Account or $2.5 million invested in Stocks, Bonds and Mutual Funds.

At that point your network marketing business is an asset equal to have $2.5++ million dollars invested.

Let me repeat that. Having a residual income of $5,000 per month is the equivalent of having $2.5 million invested!

Wouldn’t you agree that working to build your Network Marketing business to that level is creating a HUGE asset for yourself?

The immensity of that asset is what attracted us to this profession. Even if it takes five years to build our network marketing business to $5,000 per month by plugging away part time, we are creating an asset that is larger than we could by investing $175,000 per year for the next 14 years until I turn 65.

Others have built to that level of income in as little as 8 weeks and the average for those coached by our mentor is 18 months.

Let’s build that asset together!

I do hope you decide to join us on our adventure. Once that momentum kicks in, there is no telling what peaks we can climb together.

Richards Update – Weight Loss & the USANA Business

Richards Update – Weight Loss and USANA Business Building

My last post was 12/6 so this one is more than a little overdue.

Last Friday, 12/14, I took a 3 mile walk and on my way back home I was hit by a SUV that was leaving Estates at Tanoan on Eubank. The black SUV, driven by a woman who was on her pink cell phone instead of paying attention to her surroundings, was moving slowly as it left the stop sign, but it was enough to knock me to the ground.

To make matters worse as I scrambled to my feet and got out of her way, she drove off and screamed at me that I should pay attention to cars. So if you know anyone in Tanoan Estates that drives a black SUV with a plastic hood protector, please tell her to put down the cell phone and be more careful. Next time she may seriously hurt someone.

By the time I finished the last mile of my walk my hip was hurting badly and because of that pain I have not been very active until yesterday. Probably should have went and had the hip looked at by a doctor, but please don’t tell Patty that.

Weight Loss

On 12/12 Patty and I had Alfred “Koollaid” Watson, a personal trainer, come to our apartment gym and put us through a workout. He kicked our behinds, but we felt good the next day other than small aches and pains. We committed ourselves to doing the workout he showed us 3 times per week with a walk 2 other days.

Then I got hit by an SUV and all that went out the window.

I have gained 2.2 pounds since my last post. Patty is holding steady at about 10 lbs lost since we started.

There is still lots of great news on the weight loss front. Since we began this process 12 weeks ago I have taken almost 3 inches off my waist and went out and bought jeans that are a full size smaller. YAY!

Patty and I am slowly working our way back into exercise. We walked 1/2 mile last night and I got in a 1/2 mile walk earlier today. Hoping to increase that to 3/4 mile tomorrow or 20 minutes on the recumbent exercise bike.

The USANA Business

We have been slowly working on the business during the Holiday season without as much cold calls, but we have found that you never know who will be interested.

At Costco on Saturday I was purchasing jeans and mentioned to the cashier that it was nice to buy jeans a size smaller than the last time. She and the person doing the boxing asked how, so I gave them our card. It was incredibly busy or I would have taken more time.

As I was walking away one of the people selling the membership upgrades asked me if he could have one of our cards and he walked with us asking questions, so I got his contact information and set up a time to follow up with him.

At our apartment complex’s Christmas party we spoke with several people that seemed very interested including one that I dropped off samples too today. The apartment manager suggested we put flyers for the USANA Reset Challenge in the workout center.

We also got a new Preferred Customer from one of my Search Engine Optimization &  Social Media clients.

Most importantly, Patty and I qualified for a check this past week!

What I have learned

About Weight Loss

Consistent exercise, even if it is just the short 1.5 mile walk we had been doing, is critical to weight loss. We are really only doing the maintain phase, replacing one meal per day with a Nutrimeal shake, but that combined with the exercise we were doing had resulted in 22 pounds lost in 11 weeks.

Even if I cant walk as far this week because of the pain in my hip from being hit by the SUV, I am still going to walk daily.

About Building the USANA Business

As in weight loss, consistency is the key. Patty and I have committed to talking to 2 new people about the business every day and its paying off. We also found out that even small comments can lead to opportunities to share the business or the products.

I do hope you decide to join us on our adventure. Once that momentum kicks in, there is no telling what peaks we can climb together.

Please feel free to contact us about the USANA products or the opportunity and tell us your thoughts. We appreciate the feedback.

Why We Built Our USANA Blog on WordPress

Why We Built our USANA Blog on WordPress

Alot of people have asked me why we created our blog on WordPress, a free platform.

Some background on why they have asked:

Before USANA, Richard’s main source of income for the past 3 years was building and maintaining websites as well as SEO, Social Media and Content Marketing. So people are used to his websites being extremely professional and self-hosted.

So why did he build our USANA blog on WordPress, a free platform?

Two Words – Its duplicable

Anyone can sign up for a free wordpress account, choose a free theme, and build a blog all by themselves.  You can build YOUR USANA blog on WordPress without needing money or a professional webmaster to build and maintain the site.

Sure, when you go Emerald or Diamond you will probably want to spend a little cash and have your site updated, but the biggest changes you will see us make are being self-hosted so Richard can do more with Google Analytics (which is free) and maybe going from a free theme to a $99 Studio Press Theme (Richard’s preferred WordPress theme family for his clients websites).

But we wanted to show that anyone can build a nice looking blog with all the bells and whistles for free.

The Key to Network Marketing is being Duplicable

The 1st people will think when you approach them about the business is “Can I do what she is doing?”  Can they duplicate what you are doing?

The 1st thing your new distributors will ask about building their new business is “Can I do what my mentor is doing to build my business?” Can they train their new people like you are training them?

If they answer is no, they are not going to join you in the USANA business or they are not going to stick in the business.

So that is why Richard built this blog using So the people in our organization will see that they too can do this.

We do hope you decide to join us on our adventure. Once that momentum kicks in there is no telling what peaks we can climb together.

Please feel free to tell us your thoughts. We appreciate the feedback.
